22 to 24 November 2000
the international meeting
Ascesi e rinuncia in India was
held in Udine,
with
the patronage of the Regional Authority of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, the support
of the Provincial Authority of Udine, the Municipal Authorities of Udine and
the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Udine e Pordenone.
The meeting was organized by the
Società Indologica "Luigi Pio Tessitori"
in the framework of the celebrations for the
twin-town between the municipalities of Udine and Bikaner. On 22 November
in the Sala Matrimoni of the Municipality of Udine, Nalini Balbir (Université
Sorbonne Nouvelle),
Carlo Della Casa (University of Milan) and Gianfranco Fiaccadori (University
of Udine) presented the volume L.P. Tessitori,
Studi giainici, second issue of the
Opera omnia series. On
23 November, again in
the Sala Matrimoni of
the Municipality of Udine,
Donatella Dolcini and Romano Vecchiet (Biblioteca Civica "Vincenzo Joppi)
given a lecture on Il fondo Tessitori
della Biblioteca Civica "Vincenzo Joppi".
Later
that same day, Massimo
Somaglino recited the
Italian-language version of
the Veli Krisana Rukamani ri, a bardic poem published by Luigi
Pio Tessitori during the year 1919. An introduction to the poem was given by
Giorgio Milanetti (University "La Sapienza" in Rome). On 24 November
in the hall of the Chamber of Commerce B.G.
Sidharth (B.M. Birla Science Centre) introduced the
documentary Kumbha mela directed by Benedetto Parisi (Società
Indologica "Luigi Pio Tessitori").
