On 23 June 1994 in the Sala Corgnali of the "Vincenzo Joppi" Civic Library in Udine and in the presence of the academic authorities of the University of Udine, the official presentation of the Società Indologica "Luigi Pio Tessitori" took place. The Società Indologica's constitutional aims and objectives were read and plans for initiatives to be undertaken in the future were outlined: organization of conferences, lectures, film festivals and concerts in Italy and abroad; publication of Luigi Pio Tessitori's works and unpublished documents under its Bibliotheca Indica imprint; promotion of scientific, economic and cultural co-operation with the Indian sub-continent; acquisition of bibliographical material for a future library; creation of a database entirely dedicated to Indological studies. During the presentation, Albio Cesare Cassio (Oriental Institute in Naples) introduced the volume Teofilo Indiano (Ravenna 1992) by Gianfranco Fiaccadori (University of Udine), a work that fits admirably into the context of studies on the relationship between India and the classical world.
