B.G. Sidharth, director general of the Birla Science Centre in Hyderabad and member of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste where he is involved in research into quantum mechanics, has been conducting over the last few years studies in the field of astronomy, comparing data from the ancient texts of the Veda with the results of the most recent scientific research. This was the subject of the lecture Vedic knowledge and modern science given by B.G. Sidharth in Pordenone and Udine on 9 and 16 November 1995, at the initiative of the Society in collaboration with the Società Filosofica Italiana. In the lecture the scientific insights of Vedic literature were compared with modern findings in the fields of the physical sciences, astronomy and medical sciences. According to B.G. Sidharth the three areas of ancient Vedic literature which are finding a dramatic echo in modern frontier science are: cosmology, quantum physics and consciousness. Modern science, whose latest findings are trasforming our world view, is leading us back to the Vedic insights of several thousand years ago.
